Rationale

When Planets Collide

When Planets Collide began as an experiment, with six artists painting intuitively as a direct response to aural and visual stimuli over a seven-day period. This process of uninhibited expression is a living example of the transference of creative energies, moving from one medium to re-form in another. It is a testament that we are a product of our environment; the people we know, the environment we live in, the society that surrounds us.

It is believed that we all create our own universe, and that in our existence we all change the world in a small way. By creating this work, we hope to instigate thoughtfulness and to bring about a greater sense of social awareness - to highlight the importance of atmospheric influence and to bring back a sense of individual and social responsibility.

Astrological references in the artwork are a symbol of fate versus existential philosophies, the empowerment of making personal decisions that will change the course of our lives and relinquishing control of the things that we cannot affect.

We are inspired and moved by our surroundings, ever curious, always learning. By recognizing that we are all a part of each other's constellations, that we are more alike than un-alike, we begin to build meaningful connections in the world. To change individually and to grow communally, to live, absorb, encourage and nurture - it is the way forward.
